The Paris Fashion Law and Innovation Conference was recently held on October 4, 2019 at La Maison du Barreau in Paris, France before a full audience of U.S./French attorneys, industry executives and French law and business students. The topics focused on non-traditional trademarks, anti-counterfeiting strategies and advertising/influencer issues, both from a U.S. and E.U. perspective. I was fortunate to speak on two panels covering non-traditional trademarks and publicity issues. Conference speakers included Paola Piccoli (Head of Brand Enforcement, Maus Freres International Services), Fleur Allain (General Counsel, Sonia Rykiel), Magali Jalade (Director of Public and Regulatory Affairs, Autorité de Régulation Professionnelle de la Publicité), and Delphine Sarfati-Sobreira (General Manager, Union des Fabricants). Additional panelists included Nathalie Dreyfus (CEO & Founder, Dreyfus), Maria Vathis (Of Counsel, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner), and Frank J. Desiderio (Partner, Grunfeld, Desiderio, Lebowitz, Silverman & Klestadt LLP)
Special thanks to the incredible and indefatigable Celine Bondard for co-chairing the conference with me. Without her, this conference would not be possible. Also special thanks to the Federal Bar Association and the French American Bar Association, as the conference was jointly hosted by both.
Last, but certainly not least, thank you to my partners at Dunnington Bartholow & Miller LLP for supporting my efforts and sponsoring the conference in both New York and Paris. Mark your calendars, the New York edition is coming up on February 7, 2020!
